There is a lot of debate about as to whether The Hills is a reality show or not. I think it’s pretty obvious that while the show is based partially on reality, most of it is scripted and rehearsed. The overall life and job choices that each character takes are obviously real, but what we see on TV is not.

I mean, think about it. There are far too many coincidences with characters running into each other, etc. Everything is always set up so perfectly – the locations, the lighting and everything else. And the characters…

The characters and their choices leave a lot of us scratching their heads. First and foremost, there is the whole Spencer thing. There are people who absolutely and positively HATE Spencer. Trust me, before I came to the conclusion that his part is clearly scripted, I did too. I mean, nobody can be THAT much of a jackass in real life. There is just no way! I think he purposely came onto the show and into Heidi’s life to be the villain or something. Either way I feel sorry for the guy.

And Heidi. I mean, didn’t she know that Spencer said and did all that stuff behind her back in the beginning when she saw the show? Doesn’t she realize that Spencer is solely responsible for her and Lauren’s ongoing fight? Even a complete moron would see what all of us in tvland saw. That is why I think Spencer’s whole character and role is rehearsed and not real at all. Nobody could be THAT stupid! No woman would stand by a guy like him if he really did and said the things he did.

So my conclusion is that most of the show is scripted. Part of me wonders if they are all best friends in real life… and only pretending to carry on feuds for the public!
